Jagan visits Amaravati, meets affected farmers

Guntur, January 19: YSR Congress Party chief Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy today visited some villages in Guntur district and met farmers whose lands are being acquired for the development of state capital Amaravati.

Stating that he is not against development, the leader of opposition made it clear that he will not keep quiet if farmers are cheated in the name of development.

He interacted with farmers in Tadepalli and enquired about their problems. He alleged that farmers were suffering due to the highhanded attitude of the state government.

Jagan said small farmers were being badly affected by the laying of seed access roads. He said 300 families were displaced by the laying of new or expansion of existing roads. He said 25 acres of land was forcibly taken by the government.

YSRCP leader said meager compensation was being paid to farmers. The farmers complained that for one acre of land the government is promising to pay Rs.30 lakh compensation while the market price for the same land is Rs.15 crore.

He demanded that the government immediately stop forcible acquisition of lands

State ministers criticized Jagan’s visit to capital region and alleged that he is trying to provoke farmers.

Municipal administration minister P. Narayana said the leader of opposition was creating hurdles in the development of the state capital. He claimed that the farmers had voluntarily come forward to give their lands for the capital and there is no forcible acquisition of land.
